The definitive negotiating mandate with Brussels should be ready in two to three months. Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis made this statement to the media in Bern on Friday.

The draft negotiating mandate adopted on Friday is now being consulted by various parliamentary committees and the cantons, said Cassis. The business associations would also be consulted. The government would then adopt the definitive mandate.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) will hold the consultations with the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA), the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP), the Federal Department of Finance (FDF), the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) and the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC).

Cassis also commented on the negotiations on a framework agreement that were broken off in May 2021. No appropriate solutions could have been found on the free movement of persons, wage protection and state aid. "The Federal Council felt a new approach was needed." In February 2022, it then opted for the so-called package approach.
