The CHWolf association has filed a supervisory complaint against five cantons. The wolf protection association hopes that this will stop the shooting of wolves, as it announced on Friday.

The association argued that the shooting permits issued by the cantons were unlawful. The Federal Office for the Environment's approval to shoot wolves in the cantons of Graubünden, Valais, St. Gallen, Vaud and Ticino was not legally valid. This is because the FOEN has not yet published its approval decision and has failed to withdraw the suspensive effect of any appeals against the decision.

With the current shooting policy, the federal government is also violating the will of the people and the Bern Convention, the wolf protection association continued. According to the Bern Convention, which has been ratified by 46 European and other countries, the wolf is a strictly protected species. The CHWolf association submitted a complaint to the Bern Convention at the beginning of December.

On November 1, the Federal Council brought the first part of the amendment to the Hunting Act into force for a limited period. This gave the cantons the opportunity to carry out "preventive regulatory shooting" as early as December and January, provided they received the approval of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN).
