Last year, the organization "Tischlein deck dich" saved 7200 tons of perfectly good food from going to waste. This enabled it to support 1.8 million people living in poverty in Switzerland.

"Tischlein deck dich" collected 1500 tons more than in the previous year, the organization announced on Wednesday. It also increased the number of drop-off points by 8 to 157, set up a new logistics warehouse and expanded its staff to 4,200 volunteers.

The number of people supported, including families, single parents, the working poor and pensioners, has also increased by around 310,000 to 1.8 million people. This growth was made possible by good cooperation with the food industry, politicians, scientists, donors and helpers.

The problem of food waste is becoming an increasingly important issue in the food industry and this is now also being recognized by politicians. The only way to further reduce food waste in Switzerland is through even better cooperation between farmers, retailers and the federal offices and cantonal chemists involved.

"Tischlein deck dich" claims to be the first food waste organization in Switzerland and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. But there is still a lot of potential to save. That is why the organization is planning to open ten more drop-off points this year.
