Meat processor Micarna is closing its site in Ecublens VD in spring 2025. The Migros Group wants to concentrate the business unit at fewer sites, particularly in Courtepin FR. 84 jobs are affected. One of the reasons for the changes is a decline in meat consumption.

The employees affected will be supported in their search for a new job at another Micarna site or outside the Migros Group, a company spokesperson told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Thursday. He confirmed information from the newspaper "24 heures".

Talks are currently being held with the employees, the spokesperson continued. They are subject to the Migros collective labor agreement (CLA). A social plan is in place. Migros will remain present in Ecublens.

The Micarna Group currently has five fresh meat processing plants in Switzerland. According to the company, an analysis showed that locations such as Courtepin or Schönbühl BE offer better conditions for the future.

According to the company spokesperson, considerable investment would be required for the machinery and the entire infrastructure in Ecublens. In addition, there is "strong pressure" on prices and margins in the retail sector. A change in eating habits with less consumption of fresh meat would also have an impact on production.
