93-year-old pedestrian critically injured in Ticino

A pedestrian was hit by a car and critically injured in a traffic accident in the Lugano region on Tuesday. The 93-year-old victim had to be taken to hospital by ambulance.
The accident occurred shortly after 12.30 p.m. in the municipality of Melano in the district of Lugano, according to the Ticino cantonal police.
According to the report, a 78-year-old motorist was driving on the cantonal road in the direction of Mendrisio when he overlooked a 93-year-old pedestrian who wanted to cross the road. The latter was using a walking frame, the press release continues.
After receiving initial medical treatment at the scene, the man was taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries were life-threatening, the police concluded.
