The Winterthur city police and the Zurich cantonal police have ended their major operation in Winterthur on Thursday. The closed areas were released again. The 150 or so people who had been evacuated were able to return to their homes.

The evacuated residents had to spend the morning in the Technorama science museum. The all-clear was finally given at half past eleven and they were allowed to return to their homes.

The police had previously searched a parked, gray van with a bomb robot. The police have not yet communicated whether anything was found. After the search, the van was driven to a nearby parking lot.

Threat at 2 o'clock in the night

The large-scale operation was triggered by a threat received by the police at 2 a.m. on Thursday night. The police have not yet provided any further details about the threat. It is still unclear whether the sender of the threat has been apprehended. The police intend to publish further information in the early afternoon.

The evacuated houses belonged to the Guggenbühl district in Oberwinterthur, not far from Oberwinterthur railroad station.
