The Swiss hotel industry continued to grow in February. The sector thus continued the record figures of the previous year and January.

In February, hotel overnight stays rose by 3.4% compared to the same month last year, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Friday based on an initial estimate. The increase is due to foreign guests: here the increase was 9.2 percent. In contrast, the number of overnight stays by guests from Switzerland was 1.0% lower than in February 2022.

Upward trend unbroken

The Swiss hotel industry was thus able to build on the record-high figures of recent months in February. This comes as a surprise, as the Swiss mountain railroads recently reported weaker figures than in the same month last year in almost all Swiss ski resorts due to the warm weather in February.

In 2023 as a whole, the Swiss hotel industry broke the 40 million mark for the first time with 41.8 million overnight stays. The next record followed in January 2024: at 3.1 million, there were more overnight stays than ever before in a single January.

The definitive and absolute figures for overnight stays in February will be published by the FSO on April 8.
