At their delegates' meeting in Münchenstein BL on Saturday, the delegates of the Junge Mitte party clearly said yes to their parent party's cost brake initiative and to the energy tax waiver. The young party rejected the SP's premium relief initiative. The three proposals will be put to the ballot box on June 9.

The Federal Act on a Secure Electricity Supply from Renewable Energy Sources (Mantelerlass) sets "an important course for the expansion of renewable energies and the further path to climate neutrality by 2050", Junge Mitte announced in a communiqué. The law will allow Switzerland to generate more electricity in winter and at the same time ensure the protection of nature and the landscape.

With the cost brake initiative, all players in the healthcare system would be held accountable. This would allow cost growth to be curbed without any loss of quality. This is necessary because the rise in health insurance premiums is still the biggest concern of the Swiss population.

The SP's premium relief initiative, on the other hand, would not reduce healthcare costs and, on the contrary, could lead to false incentives. The indirect counter-proposal would help to reduce the financial burden on people in the short to medium term.

Criticism of parliament and mother party

Junge Mitte President Marc Rüdisüli went on to criticize parliament for its "short-term thinking". The new CO2 Act, for example, was "unambitious, there was no counter-proposal to the biodiversity initiative and no more money was allocated for mental health. However, there is enough for special interests.

The CO2 Act was also unnecessarily watered down by the centrist delegation in the Council of States, Rüdisüli is quoted as saying in the press release. Switzerland is not on track with climate protection. Instead, "more courageous steps with ambitious and concrete measures are needed quickly" for a "policy that is fair to all generations".
