Healthcare group Galenica and insurer Axa are joining forces to promote the pharmacy as the first port of call for health issues. Axa will now cover the costs of health consultations in pharmacies in order to further reduce healthcare costs, the insurer announced on Tuesday.
Galenica has the largest network in Switzerland with around 370 pharmacies nationwide, including Amavita, Coop Vitality and Sun Store.
A visit to the doctor is often disproportionate for common, less serious complaints. For common and clearly definable complaints, advice from a pharmacist would often be sufficient, the press release continues. Accordingly, Axa is now covering the costs of such health consultations in pharmacies as part of its supplementary outpatient insurance and has entered into a cooperation with Galenica for this purpose.
According to the information provided, the pharmacists at the pharmacies belonging to Galenica have the appropriate training and further training to make an initial medical assessment, sell the person concerned a suitable medication, including prescription medication if necessary, or refer them to a doctor in case of doubt.
