Road to Saas Valley VS temporarily closed due to avalanche danger

In Valais, the main road between Visp and the Saas Valley vacation region was temporarily closed on Saturday due to the risk of avalanches. Officials expected heavy precipitation during the course of the day.
At midday, the sections between Stalden and Saas-Grund and between Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell were closed, according to Saas Valley Tourism. The road between Saas-Grund and Saas-Fee initially remained open.
The closures were initially due to last until Sunday lunchtime. The municipality then wanted to provide further information.
There was already a high avalanche risk in the region at the beginning of March. Ski lifts, pistes and winter hiking trails in Saas-Fee were therefore temporarily closed.
The Valais winter sports resort of Saas-Fee lies at 1800 meters above sea level not far from the Italian border. The glacier village is known, among other things, for its proximity to several mountains over 4000 meters high.
