Swiss pilots and flight attendants are increasingly canceling flights to Israel due to safety concerns. The airline is now changing its procedures to ensure that all flights can be operated as planned.

In response to an inquiry from the Keystone-SDA news agency on Thursday, Swiss said that it was working to counteract this, as other crew members would have to stand in in the event of cancellations and may then be deployed more often than average on the same routes. Many cancellations at short notice have led to an increased planning effort. From Saturday, staff will have to cancel at least seven days before a flight to Israel, the Tagesanzeiger newspaper wrote on Wednesday.

There are no concrete figures on how many crew members have withdrawn from flights to Israel. "On some flights no one has signed off, on others one or more crew members have signed off," said a Swiss spokesperson.

Previously, Swiss flew the crew back to Zurich from Tel Aviv on the same day. From May, it will fly twice a day again, as it did before the war. Due to the flight duty regulations, which provide for extended rest periods at night, the crew will also have to spend the night in Tel Aviv, the statement continued.

Swiss understands the concerns of some crew members. Specialists have examined the situation and have come to the conclusion that the situation is stable and safe.
