A committee of members of the German Bundestag invited Richard Szostak, the EU's chief negotiator for the negotiations with Switzerland, to its meeting in Berlin on Wednesday. In addition to a "speedy" conclusion to the negotiations, the responsible rapporteurs from the "traffic light" coalition (SPD, Greens and FDP) are also demanding financial contributions from Switzerland for access to the EU internal market.

The topic was the negotiations between Switzerland and the European Union, as the rapporteurs of the traffic light coalition announced on Thursday. It was the third time in this parliamentary term that the EU Committee had dealt with this topic. This underlines the special importance that the Bundestag attaches to the topic.

According to the communiqué, they demanded that Switzerland's already "far-reaching access rights to the EU internal market" be accompanied by corresponding obligations on the part of Switzerland. This means "consistent financial contributions from the Swiss side" that correspond to the efficiency and high benefit of access to the single market for Switzerland.

A common market requires rules and decisions that are binding for all participants, the committee stated. Furthermore, Switzerland's renewed association with the EU's Horizon research program must take place "as quickly as possible".
