The Swiss ambassador to the UN, Pascale Baeriswyl, has spoken out in favor of reforming the UN Security Council's ability to act. However, the body is "only a reflection of the current geopolitical situation", Baeriswyl said in an interview.

Despite all the tensions, the Security Council remains a place where people need to talk to each other, Baeriswyl said in an interview with "Le Temps" published on Friday.

But when Baeriswyl sees how the "big powers" are fighting, the geopolitical situation worries her. Hope lies in the system: in the rules, international law and international humanitarian law, said the Swiss representative.

The ability of the highest body of the United Nations to act, which is partially restricted by vetoes, is well known. At the end of February, the foreign ministers of the G20 countries spoke out in favour of a comprehensive reform of the most important international organizations. "We need institutions that better reflect the world of today and not the world as it was when these institutions were created," said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
