Swiss hotels welcomed more guests in March 2024. According to an initial estimate by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Tuesday, the number of overnight stays rose by 4.6% compared to the same month last year.
The boom in the hotel industry is thus continuing. Overnight stays had already risen by 2.2% and 3.8% in January and February respectively. And in 2023, local hotels recorded more overnight stays than ever before in a single year, with more than 40 million for the first time.
Foreign guests particularly strong
The increase in March is primarily due to guests from abroad. The increase here was 7.4 percent. However, there was also an increase in Swiss guests. However, at +2.1 percent, this was significantly lower.
The definitive and absolute figures for overnight stays in March will be published by the FSO on May 6. The office will also publish information on the development of the hotel industry in the entire first quarter of the current year.
