The cyber security company Wisekey is expanding its cooperation with the Swiss Armed Forces in the field of space travel. The French-speaking Swiss company is to launch a communications satellite into space this year.
Specifically, the collaboration relates to the use of WISeSAT/Fossa technology for picosatellites in low-Earth orbit. Wisekey will also be responsible for the cryptographic encryption of the communication, according to a press release issued on Monday. The launch is scheduled to take place in the third quarter of 2024 with SpaceX.
Cooperation with the Swiss Armed Forces had already been communicated in 2022. The Swiss Armed Forces' intention to develop military capabilities in space is part of the new defense strategy.
