A long traffic jam forms in front of the Gotthard tunnel

On the A2 highway in the direction of Ticino, the approach traffic has started rolling. A long traffic jam quickly formed in front of the north portal of the Gotthard tunnel in Göschenen UR on Wednesday morning.
At 9 a.m., the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) reported a traffic jam of one kilometer on the short message service X, 45 minutes later the column was already four kilometers long. The police then closed the entrances to Wassen and Göschenen to prevent traffic from passing through the villages.
The traffic jam before Ascension Day is not unexpected. Many people want to use the work-free Thursday for an extended weekend. In its forecast, the TCS assumed that the traffic situation would calm down towards Friday evening. Return traffic is therefore expected on Sunday.
