The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a record 40,000 points, while the Swiss benchmark index SMI continues its upward trajectory.
Swiss stocks showed gains late Thursday, with the benchmark index SMI moving closer to the 12,000-point mark. Although this isn’t a new record for the SMI, which surpassed 12,000 in 2021, it indicates a positive trend in the Swiss market.
On the other side of the Atlantic, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the leading US index, broke through the 40,000-point mark for the first time. After a slow start, the index gained up to 0.2% and hovered around this new milestone.
This record rally in the US stock markets continued with the technology-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index also setting new records with moderate gains. According to Hans Bernecker, a stock market letter author, this was a significant benchmark for investors. The trend was sparked by renewed hopes of an interest rate turnaround in the USA, bolstered by the latest inflation data.
Despite these positive movements, the SMI’s current rise does not match its previous peak. The SMI remained above the 12,000-point mark for almost a year before dipping below it again in 2022. Investors remain optimistic as the index edges upward again.
