The Roman Catholic Church will make its first decisions on the planned contact point for victims of abuse in June. It is in negotiations with victim counseling centers and the Conference of Cantonal Directors of Social Affairs (SODK).
The church's internal reporting and intervention structures are inadequate in various respects, the Roman Catholic Church admitted to the media in Zurich on Monday. It is important to bring in experts from outside the church for this contact point.
Help for victims of abuse should therefore one day be provided by state or state-recognized institutions. It is still unclear when it will begin its work. Many questions still need to be clarified, said Bishop Joseph Bonnemain.
The call for an independent contact point was triggered by a study from September last year. This showed that priests and members of religious orders in Switzerland had committed over 1,000 cases of sexual abuse since 1950, although the number of unreported cases is likely to be high.
