The Conference of Cantonal Health Directors welcomes the "no" vote on the SP's premium relief initiative. It would not have provided a solution and would have been far too expensive. The premium reduction is currently geared towards the cantonal tax and social systems.
The cantons will pay out CHF 2.5 billion in premium reductions in 2022, as announced by the GDK on Sunday. The indirect counter-proposal now requires all cantons to make a minimum contribution. This will initially burden them with an additional CHF 350 million and a billion by 2030.
In order to curb the development of premiums, costs must be kept within limits. The uniform financing (Efas) opposed by the referendum is broadly supported and promotes a cost-reducing shift from inpatient to outpatient care. The vote should still take place in 2024, wrote the GDK.
