Young US-American woman falls to her death while hiking in Valais

A 16-year-old American tourist died on Sunday during a hike in Valais. The teenager fell around 100 meters down an embankment.
The young American woman was on a hiking vacation with her best friend's family in the region of Trient VS when the accident happened. The Valais cantonal police suspect that the teenager tripped on the "Gorges Mystérieuses" hiking trail in the Tête-Noire gorge shortly after 10.30 a.m. on Sunday and then fell down the embankment.
The rescue team found the lifeless body of the 16-year-old in a riverbed below the hiking trail. However, there was nothing more they could do for the victim.
The father of the family, who had previously tried to find the victim, ultimately had to be rescued himself. According to the police, rescue workers were able to evacuate the man from a rock face in which he had become stuck. He remained unharmed.
