The public prosecutor's office in Ticino is bringing charges against two police officers who were involved in a traffic accident involving cantonal councillor Norman Gobbi (SVP) last November. The charges relate to aiding and abetting, incitement and complicity.

However, the criminal investigation against a third police officer has been dropped, as the Ticino public prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday.

At the end of March, the public prosecutor's office in Ticino initiated a criminal investigation following a traffic accident involving Norman Gobbi on November 14, 2023. It was intended to clarify whether a criminal offense was committed in connection with the incident and during the investigation.

According to media reports from Ticino, the head of the cantonal justice and police department was not named in the accident report. His alcohol level is also said to have been too high during the first test.

Gobbi's lawyer welcomed the criminal investigation, but emphasized that his client bore no responsibility for the accident. No one was injured.
