Berset looks back on intensive campaign after election

The elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, has set out his priorities for the office. His election to this office is a victory for Swiss diplomacy.
Berset told Swiss media representatives at the residence of the Swiss ambassador to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on Wednesday. Among other things, he thanked the Federal Council, the Swiss delegation to the Council of Europe and his personal assistant for their support during the five-month campaign.
Former Federal Councillor Berset was elected Secretary General by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Tuesday. He is the first Swiss national ever to be elected to this position. He will take office on September 18.
