Following the severe storms in Valais, the cantonal authorities have asked the army for help. The army is to provide support in the Siders/Chippis region in particular.
The help of the army was necessary as all cantonal emergency services and private companies were already on site, the cantonal command and control organization (KFO) wrote on Sunday. The region has been severely affected by flooding, including the closure of the A9 highway on Sunday morning due to flooding.
The canton of Ticino has also requested help from the army, as representatives of the authorities said at a media conference in Locarno on Sunday afternoon. On the one hand, help is needed for the installation of a temporary bridge in Cevio in the Maggia Valley, and on the other, two Super Puma helicopters are required for evacuations.
