President Viola Amherd has expressed her dismay at the violence of nature during an inspection of the Maggia Valley, which has been devastated by storms. With the help of federal specialists, a temporary bridge is to be built as quickly as possible.
It is one thing to hear or read about devastation caused by storms. But then to see it in reality is a completely different matter, said President Viola Amherd during her visit to the bridge near Cevio that was destroyed by the Maggia. "The destruction is unbelievable."
Members of the army were already deployed in Ticino from Monday afternoon. The federal government is also sending specialists to help build a temporary bridge as quickly as possible so that the upper Maggia Valley is no longer cut off from the outside world.
However, Amherd explained that the stability of the ground on both sides of the Maggia would first have to be checked. Once this had been done, a temporary bridge could be built "within a week". However, the Federal Councillor was unable to give a date.
