The Federal Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by Russian oligarch Semyon Vinokourov. Vinokourov is the father-in-law of the daughter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He holds a 50 percent stake in the Geneva-based pharmaceutical company Genfa Global. He has been in dispute with his partner for years.

Genfa Global LB (Biopharmaceutical Laboratories), founded in Grand-Saconnex GE in 2006, is owned equally by Semyon Vinokourov and Novopharm Biotechnology, whose sole shareholder is Vinokourov's rival.

The complainant was excluded from the Board of Directors of Genfa in 2019. He subsequently attempted to have a representative appointed to the Board of Directors and challenged the validity of several general meetings, according to a ruling by the Federal Supreme Court published on Friday. The court has now ruled that the lower court in Geneva did not interpret the company's articles of association arbitrarily.

Sanctions against son

Semyon Vinokurov's son Alexander married Sergei Lavrov's daughter in 2007. Alexander Vinokurov is on the list of people sanctioned by the European Union and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) following the Russian attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Before Semyon Vinokourov moved into the private sector, he managed a national pharmaceutical company. The Vinokurov family has a large fortune and is said to own a luxurious apartment in the canton of Geneva, among other things. (Judgment 4A_508/2023 of 9.7.2024)
