Grisons photography pioneer Hans Danuser dies at the age of 71

The internationally renowned Graubünden photographer and artist Hans Danuser has died at the age of 71. The Fondazione Garbald in Castasegna GR, of which Danuser was honorary president, confirmed a corresponding media report on Saturday on request.
The "Südostschweiz" newspaper first reported on this. Danuser, who was born in Chur in 1953, was considered one of the pioneers of contemporary photography in Switzerland from the 1980s onwards. His works have been shown in major exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad.
The photography pioneer was known for his approach of linking art with science and contemporary issues. Danuser gained international recognition with his 1989 cycle "In Vivo" - with images of the gold market, biotechnology and nuclear power.
In the 1990s, Danuser devoted himself to genetic research and reproductive medicine. He also addressed climate change in his works. Danuser last donated his archive to the Fotostiftung Schweiz in May 2024.
