A local employee of the Swiss children's rights organization Terre des Hommes was killed in an airstrike on the southern Lebanese city of Tyros on Monday morning, according to the organization. His family was also killed, Terre des Hommes announced.
"We mourn the loss of our colleague Amin, who dedicated his life to supporting children in Lebanon. Our thoughts are with his family and our dedicated team in Lebanon. This tragic loss highlights the urgent need for change - the violence must stop and the civilian population must be protected at all times," Director General Barbara Hintermann was quoted as saying in the press release.
The devastating cycle of violence must come to an end. The organization remains determined to provide vital support to children and families who have been displaced from their homes and to ensure that they receive the help they urgently need during this unimaginable time. Terre des Hommes employs over 2000 people worldwide and works with partners in around 30 countries.
For more than a week, Israel's military has been launching hundreds of attacks in the neighboring country. Fearing the fighting, tens of thousands of Lebanese have now fled their villages and towns. The Israeli military wants to create the conditions for the return of around 60,000 residents of northern Israel who have been unable to return to their homes for months due to attacks by the Hezbollah militia.
Since the beginning of the Gaza war almost a year ago, Hezbollah has been firing at targets in northern Israel from Lebanon on an almost daily basis. According to its own statements, it wants to support Hamas in the Gaza Strip in its fight against Israel and achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza war.
