Swiss voters decide on a bill in February

On February 9, the Swiss electorate will vote on the popular initiative "For a responsible economy within planetary boundaries (environmental responsibility initiative)". The Federal Council decided on Wednesday to submit only this one proposal to the Swiss people.
This was announced by the federal government on Wednesday. The Young Greens' initiative was submitted to the Federal Chancellery in February 2023 with 105,940 valid signatures.
The initiative calls for an article in the constitution that puts environmental protection first. In addition, Switzerland's environmental impact should be reduced within ten years so that the planet's carrying capacity is respected.
Both the Federal Council and Parliament reject the initiative.
