Dürrenmatt and the atomic bomb in an exhibition in Neuchâtel

From Saturday until February 9, the Dürrenmatt Center in Neuchâtel (CDN) is presenting an exhibition that recalls the writer and painter's view of the atomic bomb. His works are combined with those of contemporary artists.
"Deeply impressed by the arrival of this invention, which changed the fate of mankind, Dürrenmatt reacted to it with a rich pictorial and literary production, but also with a pacifist civic commitment," the CDN announced.
The literary and artistic career of the Bernese writer (1921-1990) coincided with the period of the Cold War. The CDN particularly recalls his play "The Physicists", in which he addressed the question of the responsibility of scientists. In it, he used humor, the grotesque and the parable to warn humanity of the danger of its own destruction.
The exhibition also highlights contemporary Swiss artists whose works are associated with those of Dürrenmatt. Vanessa Billy, Christine Boillat, Miriam Cahn, Alain Huck and Gilles Rotzetter will provide insights into a topic that is more topical than ever against the backdrop of the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Resonance in Paris
At the same time, the Dürrenmatt Center has announced the publication of a booklet on the same topic. A series of the podcast "Friedrich Dürrenmatt" and a series of events will also accompany the exhibition.
In addition, the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris is also staging the exhibition "L'Age atomique - Les artistes à l'épreuve de l'histoire" until February 9, in which works from the CDN collection are on display.
