The Baldenweg sibling trio should have made history on Wednesday evening in Ghent, Belgium. They were nominated twice for a World Soundtrack Award - but came away empty-handed. The big winner, however, was Jerskin Fendrix with his music for the films "Poor Things" and "Kinds of Kindness".
The Swiss-Australian siblings Diego, Nora and Lionel Baldenweg had high hopes of winning one of the most prestigious international film music awards in the Discovery of the Year and Public Choice Award categories. For the first time ever, film music compositions from Switzerland were nominated twice, namely for their music for the feature film "In the Land of Saints and Sinners".
Instead, British composer Jerskin Fendrix achieved what no one before him had managed. He won the Composer of the Year and Discovery of the Year awards. This is also remarkable because he received these honors for his first film score. His music for "Poor Things", the multiple Oscar-winning film by Yorgos Lanthimos, is his debut. He was also honored for the music to Lanthimos' more recent film "Kinds of Kindness".
The World Soundtrack Awards are presented in a total of eleven categories. Among others, Finneas O'Connell and Billie Eilish were also crowned Best Original Song for their Barbie song "What Was I Made For?".
These film music awards are also among the most important in the world because the World Soundtrack Academy judges the works. Leading female composers, critics, film music agents, publicists and studio executives are the judges.
