National Council committee does not want to restrict S status geographically

The National Council committee responsible does not want to restrict S protection status "to those who are truly in need of protection". It is proposing that a motion adopted by the Council of States be rejected, albeit only narrowly.
With 12 votes to 12 and a casting vote by President Greta Gysin (Greens/TI), the National Council's Political Institutions Committee (SPK-N) decided to reject the key point of a motion tabled by SVP member of parliament Esther Friedli (SG), as reported by the parliamentary services on Friday. According to the text of the motion, the granting of S status should be differentiated according to the Ukrainian region from which those seeking protection originate.
The majority of the Commission is of the opinion that such a regulation would lead to major implementation problems, as was stated. The committee minority proposes that the motion be adopted.
On the other hand, the committee voted clearly in favor of a motion by Council of States member Benedikt Würth (center/SG). According to this motion, anyone who leaves Switzerland for a certain period of time, for example for two weeks, should no longer be able to benefit from S protection status. Anyone who has claimed return assistance or has already benefited from this status in another country in the Dublin area should also no longer receive this status.
In the eyes of the SPK-N, it is important to effectively and proactively combat any abuse of the S status. According to the press release, the minority of the committee requested that the motion be rejected, as it believes that its concerns have already been fulfilled or are superfluous.
