Employees of the transport police should be allowed to carry stun guns in future. After the National Council, the responsible Council of States committee is also of this opinion.

The Council of States' Committee for Transport and Telecommunications (KVF-S) voted 7 to 2 in favor of adopting a corresponding motion by Michaël Buffat (SVP/VD), as reported by the parliamentary services on Friday. The small chamber is expected to make a decision on this in the winter session in December.

According to the title of the motion, the transport police should be given the tools to adapt their response to the specific situation. The majority of the KVF-S would like to achieve the possibility of using electric shock devices "so that the transport police can react more flexibly to certain situations in order to continue to guarantee the safety of passengers in the best possible way", according to the statement.

According to the communiqué, the minority requested that the motion be rejected, as the Federal Council's statement on the proposal could lead to confusion in their eyes. The federal government proposes that the motion be accepted. According to the written statement, the suitability and proportionality of the motion will be examined as part of its implementation. "It should be worked out in which operational areas of the transport police a destabilization device would be suitable and sensible to use."
