Valais SVP National Councillor Jean-Luc Addor followed the presidential elections in the USA as an election observer in the gambling metropolis of Las Vegas. In an interview with the online edition of the newspaper "Blick", he described the ballot as surprisingly calm. He considers Trump to be a "real leader".
According to his observations, the ballot went smoothly. The few incidents were caused by electronic voting. Republican and Democratic observers were present at the polling stations. The Republicans had taken a closer look because this party had expressed doubts.
After expressing his support for Donald Trump in 2020, Addor described himself as neutral in 2024. He told Blick that he was not a Trump fan. Historically, Switzerland has never had as many problems as with Democratic presidents.
When it comes to the war in Ukraine, he has the impression that Trump is the only candidate with the will to end the war. According to Addor, this was not to say that Trump was better for Ukraine. But Trump is better for peace. He believes that Trump is "a real leader".
Addor was part of the 250-strong election observer mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). He inspected polling stations in the state of Nevada. As Addor explained, he was traveling with a colleague from the CDU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag.
