Once again, the mobile networks of Swiss providers have received top ratings from the trade magazine "Connect". Swisscom is a touch ahead of Sunrise, and Salt follows just a little behind.

The German trade magazine "Connect" has once again awarded the three mobile phone providers in Switzerland the top rating of "outstanding". There were only minor changes compared to the previous year, as can be seen from the test report published on Tuesday night.

Swisscom came top of the ranking for the seventh time in a row. It is still in the lead, although it lost 4 points and still has 977 out of a possible 1000 points.

Sunrise, on the other hand, improved by 5 points to 973 points, closing the gap on the leader. Salt achieved 952 points, also an increase of 2 points compared to the previous year.

At the "highest" level

The trade journal emphasized that the competition in Switzerland is at the "highest" level. This is particularly evident in the high 5G coverage rates that the testers found in their measurements. In large cities, Swisscom achieved almost 99%, Sunrise more than 97% and Salt over 95%.

The values also remain high in smaller cities, although the differences between the providers increase somewhat along connecting roads, for example. In some cases, Swisscom achieved up to 94% 5G availability in these areas, while Sunrise was at around 76% and Salt at around 65%.

Coverage in trains

Coverage on trains is traditionally a challenge for mobile network providers. According to "Connect", the results of the Swiss networks in this area are once again very good.

Swisscom achieved around 91% 5G coverage in trains, Sunrise achieved 82% and Salt 68%. Here, too, it was clear that providers generally offer strong 4G/LTE where 5G is not available.

In the language ranking, Sunrise secured the top spot with 2 points more than in the previous year, just ahead of Swisscom, which was able to maintain its score. Salt followed closely behind here too. The expansion of VoLTE (Voice over LTE) ensured short call setup times and high voice quality in all networks.

Testers covered 6230 kilometers

For the test, the experts from "Connect" covered a total of around 6230 kilometers in Switzerland. The driving tests took them through 24 large cities and 17 small towns.

In addition, walking tests were carried out in eight cities, including train stations, airports, cafés, museums and public transport. According to Connect, the measurement campaign reached around 2.3 million inhabitants, which corresponds to around 25.7 percent of the Swiss population.

A novelty in this year's test was the integration of video chats into the evaluation. According to "Connect", this reflects the growing importance of these services in everyday use.
