Stadler Rail has landed a new order. Regionalverkehr Bern-Solothurn (RBS) has ordered 20 new three-car multiple units from the train manufacturer. The vehicles will be produced in Bussnang TG.
This means that Stadler Rail can build trains for RBS for the third time, as the eastern Swiss company announced on Thursday. The new vehicles will reportedly be put into operation between 2028 and 2030. The order volume is estimated at around 190 million Swiss francs.
RBS is thus replacing its oldest fleet, the statement continues. The "Seconda" S-Bahn trains currently used on the S8 line between Bätterkinden and Bern are now over 30 years old. They are increasingly prone to breakdowns and are reaching the end of their service life.
