On Thursday morning in Kloten ZH, the use of pesticides against the Japanese beetle began. The coming weeks will be decisive in the fight against the pest. If the eradication fails, a further spread of the beetle in Europe is threatened. Due to the rain on Wednesday, the start of the pesticide application had to be postponed. In the coming weeks, various measures will be taken to try to eradicate the Japanese beetle population discovered in Kloten. The introduced beetles can cause great damage to agriculture and private gardens. The Japanese beetle population in Kloten is the first to be discovered north of the Alps. The first discovery of the pests was made in Ticino in 2017. The use of pesticides against the Japanese beetle in Kloten has begun and the coming weeks will be decisive in the fight against the pest. If the eradication fails, a further spread of the beetle in Europe is threatened. Various measures will be taken to try to eradicate the Japanese beetle population discovered in Kloten.
