The Federal Prosecutor (BA) has sentenced a former Ruag employee to a conditional fine for illegally received commission payments. However, no evidence was found for the illegal arms deals also alleged against him. The proceedings for violation of the War Materials Act were therefore discontinued. The man was sentenced to a conditional fine of 27,000 Swiss francs, to pay a fine of 4500 Swiss francs and the costs of the proceedings for the illegally received commission payments in the amount of around 150,000 Swiss francs. Ruag was informed by its own whistleblower office at the beginning of 2018 about allegedly dubious arms deals by a senior employee with Russia. According to media reports, he is said to have concluded million-dollar arms deals with the then Russia manager of the Julius Bär bank behind the backs of his employers.nnnn
