On Tuesday morning in Rapperswil SG, a locomotive from SBB Cargo derailed during a shunting manoeuvre after hitting a buffer stop.
No one was injured, but there was significant damage to the buffer stop and parts of the platform. The extent of the damage is currently unknown.
The locomotive, which was attached to three wagons, stopped just short of a SBB building. The Swiss Safety Investigation Authority (SUST) has been called in to investigate the accident.
There was no police intervention. It is unclear how long the investigation and clean-up will take, but the track closure will not affect passenger traffic in the station as the affected section is not used by passengers.
