Following last summer's storms in Valais, the cost of the urgent restoration work for the canton amounts to 141 million francs. They mainly concern watercourse structures, the road network and the agricultural and forestry infrastructure.

The departments concerned have drawn up an inventory of the damage, the restoration costs of which will have to be borne by the state, the canton of Valais announced on Thursday. Any federal subsidies and municipal contributions are not yet included in these costs. The urgent work must be carried out by the end of the year.

The canton also identified ordinary or additional restoration projects. The costs for these amount to CHF 76 million. They will be carried out in a second step according to the usual procedures. Damage caused by private individuals and companies is not included in these costs.

There were several severe storms in the canton of Valais in June and July. Flooding and debris flows caused major damage to the infrastructure. One person died in Saas-Grund. One person is missing in the Binn region.
