The motto of the 19th edition of the Steps dance festival is "Stories". A total of nine companies will present contemporary dance and at the same time tell stories that range from the personal to socially relevant debates.

The Norwegian choreographer Alan Lucien Øyen and his company Winter Guests will kick things off. The troupe will perform the piece "Story, story, die." at the Kurtheater Baden on April 24. This was announced on Tuesday by Migros Culture Percentage, which is behind the Steps dance festival.

In French-speaking Switzerland, the 19th edition of the festival starts on April 25 at the Comédie de Genève. The world premiere of "Kantik" by Swiss choreographer Perrine Valli will be performed on stage. And in Ticino, the festival kicks off on April 28 in Lugano with the latest work for Kidd Pivot by Crystal Pite and Jonathon Young from Canada.

This year's program includes choreographies from Belgium, Denmark, Great Britain, Canada, Norway and Japan, as well as two Steps co-productions from Switzerland and another international one in the field of inclusion. With these productions by nine companies, the organizers want to provide an insight into the diversity of contemporary dance.

The Steps dance festival has been held every two years since 1988. The idea behind it is to bring contemporary dance to the stages in all regions of Switzerland. The 19th edition will take place from April 24 to May 19. The festival will take place on 36 stages in the larger and smaller cities of German-speaking Switzerland, French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino.
