Swiss customs authorities have uncovered a drug smuggling operation on Lake Geneva. At the landing stage in Ouchy VD, a man was caught with 4.1 kilograms of hashish, which he had hidden in a shopping bag and transported across the lake by boat.
Employees of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security checked the ship coming from Evian (F) last November when it arrived in Ouchy, as the authorities announced on Wednesday. The smuggler was a 25-year-old Swiss man who had packaged the drugs for sale.
The man and the narcotics were handed over to the Vaud cantonal police. The cantonal public prosecutor's office initiated proceedings for a violation of the Narcotics Act.
