The Aargau cantonal police prevented a speech by Austrian right-wing extremist Martin Sellner in Tegerfelden AG on Saturday afternoon. They intervened because, in their opinion, public safety was not guaranteed.

"To ensure public safety and prevent confrontations with people from the opposing side, the speaker at the event was stopped and directed away from the cantonal territory. At the same time, the police were able to prevent the arrival of political opponents", according to a police statement on Sunday.

No one was injured. The event, to which the right-wing extremist group "Junge Tat" had invited, had been broken up. When the landlord of the property in question found out what was going on, she terminated the contract with the organizers. The police found around one hundred people in Tegerfelden.

In response to an inquiry, the Aargau cantonal police told the Keystone-SDA news agency that they currently had no indications of any criminal acts. The police confirmed that the speaker stopped was Martin Sellner.

Elon Musk reacts

Martin Sellner is the former head of the Identitarian movement in Austria. At a recently publicized meeting of right-wing extremists in Potsdam (Germany), he spoke about "remigration", i.e. that a large number of people of foreign origin should leave Germany, for example - even under duress.

The police operation in Aargau also attracted the attention of Tesla boss and X owner Elon Musk. The billionaire responded to a short message from Martin Sellner on the X platform on Saturday. Sellner described his "deportation" in the short message. "Is that legal?" Musk asked in response.
