Prices for leisure goods rose slightly more than those for other products and services in July. This is shown by the leisure price index published on Thursday by the comparison service Comparis.

These goods have risen in price by 1.6% within a year, while the official annual inflation rate according to the national consumer price index was only 1.3%. The Comparis index measures inflation in the areas of leisure and culture as well as hospitality and travel.

Expenditure on radio and television has risen particularly sharply over the course of the year (+9.8%). The main reason for this is the steep price increases for popular streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify. There is also a trend towards taking out several such subscriptions. In addition, TV subscriptions from Swiss telecom providers have also tended to become more expensive.

However, leisure courses (+7.9%), package tours (+5.7%) and mountain railroads (+4.4%) have also become much more expensive compared to the previous year.

According to Comparis, inflation for leisure goods is also above average in a multi-year comparison. The leisure price index has risen by 9.6% in the last five years, while the national consumer price index has only risen by 6.2%.
