After an accident on the A1 highway near Gossau SG on Saturday, a driver left two passengers stranded on the highway in the freezing cold. According to the police, the 27-year-old driver was driving without a license and was heavily intoxicated.

The accident on the snow-covered A1 in the direction of Zurich occurred at 06.50 a.m., as reported by the St. Gallen cantonal police on Sunday. The driver collided with the crash barrier. It turned out that a 29-year-old female passenger, who was drunk, had been driving the car before the accident.

After the collision, the 27-year-old driver asked his two colleagues in the back seat to signal the scene of the accident. When they got out, he or the 29-year-old continued driving in the direction of Zurich, according to the police. The car spun around its own axis twice more until it came to a damaged standstill.

A third person came across the two passengers standing on the highway and brought them back to the car involved in the accident. The cantonal police were informed. The 27-year-old and the 29-year-old will be reported to the public prosecutor's office.
