If countries such as Brazil and China were to organize their own form of conference for peace in Ukraine, Switzerland would have nothing against it. Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said this to the media in Bern on Monday.
Switzerland had suggested this at the end of January - in the opinion that there could be a convergence, i.e. a meeting or cooperation, somewhere, said Cassis on Monday. Cassis was responding to the question of whether or not India and Brazil would be attending the conference on the Bürgenstock at a high level.
Cassis said that Brazil had so far stuck to its statement that it did not want to participate in the conference at a high level. In India, the situation with the formation of the government is complicated. "We will see who comes on Friday," said Cassis.
When asked whether the conference could also fail, the Foreign Minister said that the alternative to trying was to sit back. "That's not what we wanted."
President Viola Amherd denied that the Russian ambassador had been summoned following attacks on her by the Russian media. Amherd had recently been massively denigrated in a Russian discussion program. According to Amherd, this disinformation campaign from Russia was so extreme that there was no need to intervene. One could see that little corresponded to reality.
