The 2023 expansion phase for the motorways could increase road safety and keep traffic out of cities: These are the arguments used by a conservative alliance to launch the referendum campaign for November 24.
The motorways are an important piece of the puzzle in the overall transport network, it was said at a media conference in Zurich on Friday. The expansion of the network is in the interests of all road users. By preventing traffic from diverting to cities, public transport buses would not get stuck there.
The 2023 step includes six projects costing CHF 5.3 billion. These projects are necessary to eliminate bottlenecks and increase road safety. Otherwise, the number of traffic jams would explode, according to the "Yes to securing the motorways" alliance.
An alliance led by the Swiss Transport Club launched a referendum against the parliament's decision to expand the highway. They speak of a "construction frenzy" that is harmful, expensive and useless.
