The Canton of Thurgau has completed the administrative investigation into the private clinic for psychiatry and psychotherapy Clienia Littenheid AG. The measures have been implemented. The investigation was triggered two years ago by indications of conspiracy narratives in the trauma therapy ward.

In December 2022, the cantonal Department of Finance and Social Affairs ordered measures against the private clinic. This was followed by an interim review a year ago and now a further review. The measures have now been fully implemented, the canton of Thurgau announced on Wednesday.

This was triggered by reports that conspiracy theories about ritual violence and mind control played a role in the treatment of patients in the trauma therapy ward. An expert report subsequently showed that more than half of the medical records examined contained references to such conspiracy narratives.

Personnel consequences

Since then, Clienia Littenheid AG has made great efforts to draw personnel and conceptual consequences from the grievances, according to the press release. Among other things, one doctor's license to practice was revoked.

The clinic announced in a separate press release on Wednesday that it had drawn personnel conclusions and "implemented an innovative, evidence-based treatment concept in line with psychiatric guidelines" with a new trauma therapy team.

Conspiracy theories and other scientifically unfounded theories and treatment methods have no place. This is ensured through training, supervision and a transparent error culture.
