Zurich-based writer Julia Weber has been awarded the Alemannic Literature Prize 2024 for her book "Die Vermengung". According to the jury's statement, Weber deals with topics of great topicality and urgency, convincing in its form, as poetic as it is precise in its language.

This was announced by Limmat Verlag on Thursday. Weber's second novel "Die Vermengung" was published by Limmat Verlag in April 2022. According to the jury, the montage of different text types, such as observations, dialogs, letters, essayistic inserts, reading notes and set pieces playfully demonstrates how what has been experienced, lived and thought takes on a life of its own and is transformed into literature.

Julia Weber was born in Moshi, Tanzania, in 1983. Her family returned to Zurich in 1985. After completing an apprenticeship as a photo assistant and the adult baccalaureate, Weber studied literary writing at the Swiss Literary Archives in Biel from 2009 to 2012. In 2012, she created the Literature Service, with which she has been offering literary documentation ever since. Weber's debut novel "Immer ist alles schön" was published in 2017.

The author lives in Zurich with her husband, the German writer Heinz Helle, and their two children.

The Alemannic Literature Prize has been awarded every three years since 1981 to authors from the Alemannic language area including Vorarlberg, German-speaking Switzerland and Alsace. It is endowed with 10,000 euros. Previous winners include Martin Walser, Arno Geiger, Peter Stamm and Peter Weber.
