The national alarm app Alertswiss now offers the option for iOS devices to play a sound in the event of critical severe weather events. This should also happen when the cell phone is muted or in "Do not disturb" mode. The location accuracy of the push notifications has also been improved, according to the Federal Office for Civil Protection.
Only messages at the "Alert" level are sent out as critical notifications, as a spokesperson for the Federal Office for Civil Protection (Babs) told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Thursday. The authority responsible for an incident therefore decides at which message level (alert, warning or information) a notification is published.
In the event of an emergency, it is crucial to inform the affected population quickly and directly, according to the Babs. Previously, location push notifications were based on geographical zones with a radius of around 30 kilometers. With the new push technology, the app would recognize the canton in which the device was located when the location was shared and send messages accordingly.
In addition, other cantons can be selected in the app to receive this information, even if you are not in the corresponding canton, it said.
According to Babs, the new version of the app also offers a clearer design that enables quick access to all Alertswiss messages and additional functions.
