The Alliance for Nuclear Phase-out criticizes the Federal Council's decision. "This is a blatant contradiction to the decision by the Swiss people to phase out nuclear power," it said in a statement. The 31 organizations in the Alliance are calling on the Federal Council and Parliament to respect this will. They will consider a referendum against the parliamentary decision.
For the Nuclear Phase-out Alliance, nuclear energy is "harmful and dangerous", as it wrote in a press release on Wednesday. "With its intention to build new nuclear power plants, the Federal Council is actively creating new health risks for the Swiss population."
If the Federal Council sticks to its decision after the consultation, Parliament will have to act and put an end to this counter-proposal. Depending on the outcome of the parliamentary consultation, the Nuclear Phase-out Alliance reserves the right to call for a referendum.
